Yes, there is a difference between co-working and hot desking, although they are often used interchangeably. Here at Greenbrae Steading, we’re all about the ‘Coworking!’
SO WHAT IS COWORKING?
Co-working refers to a shared workspace where individuals from different organisations or freelancers work alongside each other in a communal setting.
These spaces often have amenities like meeting rooms, communal areas, and sometimes even events or networking opportunities. Co-working spaces typically involve a membership fee or rental agreement for a dedicated desk or office space. At our restored Steading we have a bright and Office area with open plan kitchen (with great coffee!), a cozy woodburning stove and views of the Moray Firth.
Here at Greenbrae Steading we think that successful co-working also revolves around a sense of community. Greenbrae Steading is after all, a great place to ‘get together and meet new people. Many of our members have not only collaborated with each other but have become good friends.
WHAT ABOUT HOT DESKING?
Hot desking, on the other hand, is where employees at the same company don't have assigned desks. Instead, they choose a desk or workspace on a first-come, first-served basis each day.
This setup is often used in larger organizations where employees are not likely to be all present at the same time or where flexibility and mobility are valued. It has become especially popular after lockdown.
